Our outdoor cedar signs are sealed using Minwax Helmsman Spar Urethane. After all the most important thing about an outdoor sign is protecting it from the weather. We seal the back with 3 coats and the front with 6 coats and every time we do the front or back we always do the edges which means they get 9 coats of spar finish. We actually have a lot of people tell us our cedar signs are too nice to be put outside, but they are built to handle it.
