Frequently asked questions about laser engraving photos in wood.

Q.   How do I start the process of having a photo engraved in one of your materials?

A.   You can simply send us a photo with a rough drawing of the layout and wording and what type of plaque you are interested in. Please include your phone # and if possible your e-mail. We will take a look at the photo and contact you to let you know if it will make a good engraving. Generally if the photo looks sharp and clear, it will engrave that way. If it is flat, very dark or out of focus it will also engrave that way. We can remove background items if needed. We will supply a quote for that service if there is one and also a proof if requested.

Q.   What happens to my photo, will it be returned to me.

A.   In the case of a printed photo, yes it will be returned to you in the same condition we received it. We simply scan the photo and make any changes digitally in the computer. All digital photos sent on disks will also be returned.

Q.   When using a digital camera do you prefer the actual file or is a computer printout OK.

A.   We prefer the original file whether saved to a disk or on the cameras card. When photos are printed on computers (even at large chain stores) they have a dot pattern which will make the engraving look slightly wavy as the dot pattern is out of sync with the laser.

Q.   Can I send my photo over the internet?

A.   Yes you can. We would like to have the file as large as the original in the case of digital photos. If you are scanning a print send it as a jpeg at 300 DPI at full size.
